One Last Document

I was finishing the last day I had at the National Archives in College Park, Maryland, and had been sifting through papers for nearly 12 hours. Blurry-eyed, I nearly packed up 10 minutes before closing time – and then decided to push through one more file. It was worth it: I found cables from the State Department to the US Embassy in the summer of 1974, with a request for the Israeli government – not to stop settlement activity, but to quash publicity about it. –Gershom Gorenberg
